Orientation for 9th graders and all new high school students
Thursday, August 26th 9-11am - Main Entrance Good Counsel Campus
Parents do not need to attend.
Dear Loyola Families,
The halls of Loyola are July quiet without the energy of students and the slamming of locker doors. That is all about to end as we begin construction next week for phase one of the Capital Campaign. Many of you are probably wondering why we waited until a month before school starts to begin a project that will surely be a disruption, although a welcome one. We had to wait to secure approval from the diocese, the finalizing of plans, and the granting of city permits for the project. What will be happening over the next couple of months includes:
-The first steps in the renovation of the theatre at Fitz
-Installation of phase one of the sprinklers at the GC campus
-Creation of the Sohler Commons student center
-Expansion of the pre-school space
-Creation of the new studio arts facility at GC
-Renovation of the entry wall of the chapel
Thank you to all of you who have made this possible by your pledges and hard work. The next two summers will include further capital projects among them the completion of the theater project at Fitz and new bleachers in the gym and finishing the sprinkler system installation at GC. This is an exciting time for the Loyola family so please plan on joining us on Wednesday, July 28th at 6:00 pm for the official groundbreaking that will include the construction of ice cream sundaes.
Another very important piece of information is that we have changed the school calendar in regard to the spring break that was originally on the calendar from March 28 – April 1, 2011. Many parents have indicated that they would appreciate school being out before Memorial Day and March is also the time for intensive instruction for the AP students as they prepare for these exams. Ending the school year before Memorial Day will also give us more time for construction projects next summer. If you have already planned a family vacation for March 28 – April 1, we will gladly work with your student to make sure they do not fall behind and are not penalized for missing school. Because the district will not be in session during that time there will be no bussing but we know that a ride to school is easier to arrange than temporary daycare.
Finally, a look at events and schedules pertaining to the beginning of the school year.
